In the process of vehicle pulling out, when the speed is too fast or the locomotive suddenly accelerates and decelerates, the instantaneous impact force of the wheel on the dowty retarder increases significantly, that is, the downward force given by the wheel tread to the sliding cylinder increases significantly.
Due to the extremely short acting time, the speed valve plate in the sliding oil cylinder is closed and the pressure valve is too late to open completely. Most of the pressure is instantly on the piston rod of the dowty retarder. At this time, the piston rod of the dowty retarder may bend and deform. The offset breaks, causing the piston rod to bend and the cylinder to pop out of the housing. If the thrust pin is deformed but not completely broken, it still partially presses the thrust seat, and the cylinder cannot be ejected in time, which will cause the cylinder of the dowty retarder to squeeze the shell bushing, causing the bush to deform. Once the bush is deformed, The oil cylinder of the dowty retarder will be more stuck in the "locking" phenomenon; in addition, the piston rod of the dowty retarder is deformed, and the sealing cover cannot slide freely along the piston rod. When the sealing cover slides to the deformation of the piston rod, it will jam with the piston rod. Death forms the so-called "dead dowty retarder".
