There are two forces acting on the dowty retarder, braking work and resistance work. Braking work (absorption work) is the work done by the dowty retarder to the vehicle in the braking state. Resistance work (reactive power) is the work done by dowty retarder to vehicle in non braking state.
The greater the brake power of dowty retarder, the more obvious the deceleration effect on the vehicle. The brake power mainly depends on the opening pressure of retarder pressure valve and the actual working stroke of sliding cylinder body; the greater the pressure and the long stroke, the greater the brake power.
